Components of the Counseling Program:
- Core Curriculum Counseling - I visit each classroom every other week for counseling lessons on various topics (see "Classroom Counseling" Page)
- Crisis Management - Any time a crisis situation affects our Gentian community, I will be at the forefront to coordinate necessary resources and services to our students and/or staff
- Individual/Responsive Counseling - I am available for brief, individual counseling to all students during the school day via self, faculty or parent referrals.
- Small Group Counseling - Some students may benefit from participating in a small counseling group during the school year. Parents may contact Mrs. Stewart to refer their children.
- Teacher/System support - One of my ongoing roles is that of a consultant for other staff members. I may visit classrooms to consult about children's behavior problems, I may work with teachers as a group or individually to assist them in creating helpful methods of classroom management or emotional support to students, and I also train the faculty each year on topics such as child abuse prevention and bullying prevention.
- Parent Consultation - Parents are more than welcome to contact me at any time to discuss their child's academic, personal or social development.
- Student Support Team ("SST") - I serve as the school's SST Chairperson. Please see the SST page for more information.
- Peer Helpers Advisor - I am the faculty advisor for the Peer Helpers program at Gentian. Peer Helpers is a group of 4th and 5th grade students who participate in various projects throughout the year to help make Gentian an even friendlier and happier place.
